Assistant Early Head Start Director (AVANCE)

Leadership and management skills and abilities are essential to overseeing the staff and operations of a comprehensive, quality child and family program on a daily and on going basis.

Experience: Minimum three years working for a non-profit organization or social service entity in program development and implementation in the field of family support and or childhood education personnel management and public relations.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with related work experience in early childhood education.

Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Child Development Teacher (Parent Child) (AVANCE)

This position is responsible for working with infants and toddlers utilizing specialized knowledge and skills in order to properly address the physical, cognitive, social and emotional developmental needs of children.

Experience: Required: Six months in a licensed childcare facility or in a public/private school early childhood facility unless candidate has completed an early childhood degree program where practicum(s) were required. Preferred: Six months working with infants and toddlers in a child development center or home-based program.

ERSEA Coordinator (AVANCE)

Ensure in-depth understanding of the requirements for part 1305 of the Head Start Federal Regulations regarding Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment and Attendance (ERSEA). Manage the ERSEA Program to insure accuracy and compliance in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards, Texas State Licensing Guidelines, HS Procedures Handbook, AVANCE Policies and Procedures and all applicable regulations and local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations.

Experience: Required: At least two years of experience in a licensed child-care center. Preferred: At least one year of experience in a licensed child-care center as an assistant center director or center director of an Early Childhood Program.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Counseling with at least 18 hours of Early Childhood Development, Human Services, Social Science or related field. Management/ Supervisory Certification within one year.

Preferred Education: Masters Degree in Counseling with at least 18 hours of Early Childhood Development.

Parent Facilitator of Parental Engagement (AVANCE)

This position partners with direct staff to assist with outreach and recruitment for program participation; and assists with facilitating multi-component education and prevention programs to include planning, coordination and implementation of parental engagement and related support services for parents and children in accordance with AVANCE's mission and policies.

Experience: One year of classroom experience in teaching and working with adult groups or social work.

Required Education: High School graduate or GED Equivalency.

Preferred Education: Associates in Adult Education, Social Services, Education or related field.

Bus Monitor/Floater (Early Head Start)

This position is responsible for providing childcare services for children and monitoring and ensuring the safety of the children while onboard the bus, exiting the bus and to their destination point.  The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing children with a safe learning environment and providing them with child development instruction/activities as directed by the Teacher, Center Director and Education Coordinator.

Experience: Required: One year working with children in a licensed child care facility. Preferred: Two years working with children ages 3-5.

Required Education: Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

The Home Educator works with parents to strengthen the family's knowledge of child development, including assisting parents to understand how children grow and learn, and planning and conducting child education activities with the parents which meet the child's intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs. The Home Educator role is that of a resource for parents and a facilitator for learning in a home-based program. 

Experience: Six months working experience with high-at-risk families in the target or similar area.Preferred: Some experience working with infants and toddlers in a child development center or home-based program.

Required Education: An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelors Degree in a related field with at least 18 hours of early childhood development completed.

Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Bus Monitor/Teacher Floater (Head Start)

Coordinator of Education Services (Head Start)

This position is responsible for planning and coordinating the early childhood education and development services provided in AVANCE’s Head Start Program to ensure compliance with the underlying principles and goals of AVANCE, Head Start Performance Standards, program goals and objectives, and the needs of the community.  Provide guidance, training, mentoring, and support to assigned staff and monitor the quality of early childhood education and development services that are provided to pre-school age children.

Experience: Required- Four (4) years experience in early childhood education and development services. Work experience may be substituted by advanced training in Early Childhood Development or related fields.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

Preferred Education: Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

Coordinator of Health (Head Start)

Coordinates and participates in the process of assessing children including initial screenings, ongoing assessments and other needed specialized evaluation. Work with parents to ensure that health care professionals have conducted the required review of the child's health and have provided diagnostic testing and treatment as needed. Review, evaluate and interpret health records and other vital health service data. Ensures services are provided in accordance to State and Federal laws.


Experience: Required: Two to three years of work experience in the delivery of counseling, social work or educational services; one year of which must have been in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity.Preferred: Three to five years of work experience in the delivery of counseling, social work or educational services, with two to three years experience in a supervisory capacity.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in public health, psychology, social work or related field

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree or higher in public health, psychology, counseling, social work or related field.

Teacher Floater (Head Start)

Respects and promotes the unique identity of each parent and child and refrain from stereotyping on a basis of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion or disability, follows program confidentiality policies concerning information about parents, children, and other staff members.  Knows each child's capabilities and modes of learning, to assist with individually appropriate activities in the classroom.  Promotes feelings of security and trust in the children by being warm supportive and comforting. This position requires the ability to visually and audibly monitor children, bend, lift, stoop, sit on the floor and pull in variable directions when working with children and equipment.

Experience: Two years working in a licensed child care facility.

Required Education: An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with a minimum of 18 hours in Early Childhood Development Education.

Preferred Education: Two years working in a Head Start Program.

Family Development Worker (Uvalde) (HS Wintergarden)

This position is responsible for Case Management services through referral, advocacy, and brokering.  Services will be provided to families in compliance with the underlying principals and goals of AVANCE policy, and Head Start Performance Standards, federal, state, and local regulations.

Experience: Required:1 year working experience with high risk families, and familiar with case management systems.

Required Education: Associates in Social Work or related field

Preferred Education: Bachelors in Social Work with Certification
