Child Development Teacher/Parent-Child Educat (AVANCE)

This position is responsible for working with infants and toddlers utilizing specilaized knowledge and skills in order to properly address the physical, cognitive, social and emotional developmental needs of children at Center Based and School Based sites.

Experience: Six months in a Licensed Childcare Facility or in an Early Childhood Public/Private School working with infants and toddlers

Required Education: Associates's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 hours in Early Childhood Education

Cook (AVANCE)

This position is responsible for providing nutritious meals and snacks for children enrolled and attending AVANCE's Parent-Child Education programs to include when attending special events. This position must provide opportunities for the development of positive attitudes toward healthy foods; decision-making, sharing, communicating with others and for the development of muscle control and eye-hand coordination. This position should ensure the food provided emphasizes appropriate eating patterns and mealtime behavior as children observe adult behavior at family style meals.

Experience: One year experience in commercial kitchen or in a public school cafeteria as a cook. Preferred: Three + years experience in commercial kitchen or in a public school cafeteria as a cook.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED; Must have a Food Handler Certificate

Preferred Education: Post secondary courses in culinary or related field, must have a Food Handler Certificate

Health Assistant (Early Head Start)

This position is responsible for supporting the Health Services component for children enrolled in EHS and their families to ensure compliance with Head Start program requirements for health services and assures that basic health needs for all Head Start children are met in a timely manner to include children's physical and dental health needs. Works with staff and parents to acquire documents and/or records of current physicals, immunizations, well-care visits, pre/post-natal care visits for all EHS participant files and ensures accurate and timely data entry of participant information in the Head Start data system.

Experience: Two to three years of work experience in the delivery of community public health/medical/social services or related field.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a health services related field

Preferred Education: Masters's Degree in a health services related field

Home Educator (San Antonio) (Early Head Start)

The Home Educator works with parents to strengthen the family's knowledge of child development, including assisting parents to understand how children grow and learn, and planning and conducting child education activities with the parents which meet the child's intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs. The Home Educator role is that of a resource for parents and a facilitator for learning in a home-based program. 

Experience: Six months working experience with high-at-risk families in the target or similar area.Preferred: Some experience working with infants and toddlers in a child development center or home-based program.

Required Education: An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelors Degree in a related field with at least 18 hours of early childhood development completed.

Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Coordinator of Health & Nutrition Services (Head Start)

This position is responsible for the coordination of health services within the Head Start program designed specifically to prevent, identify and provide treatment for children’s health needs. Coordinates the process of assessing children including initial screenings, ongoing assessments and other needed specialized evaluation. Responsible for working collaboratively with parents, health care providers and other community health resources to address the health and/or medical needs of children with suspected or identified medical conditions to develop a plan of care.  Develop and implement systems and procedures to ensure the AVANCE Head Start Program complies with all Head Start program requirements for health services, assure that basic health needs for all Head Start children are met, and promote health practices that prevent future illnesses and injuries.

Experience: Required: Two to three years of work experience in the delivery of community health services, one year of which must have been in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Child Development, Social Work or related field.

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Health Science, Public Health, Social Work or related field.

Facilities Maintenance Technician (Head Start)

This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, safety and security of the facilities, materials, equipment and vehicles owned and operated by the Head Start program. 

Experience: At least six months experience working in child care facilities maintenance services and familiar with Facilities Maintenance Safety Rules and Regulations

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED plus training and certifications in appropriate areas of facility maintenance

Family Development Worker/San Antonio (Head Start)

The Family Development Worker will be responsible for providing Head Start families with comprehensive family development and adult education services through the development and implementation of an individualized service plan. This position will ensure all services focus on promoting the educational and economic success of the parents that will promote the child's overall growth and development.

Experience: One to two years working with at-risk families and experience with case management systems

This position will be assigned to a specific classroom or provide classroom coverage and support to the Teacher, teacher’s planning period, and Teacher absences. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating the early childhood education and development services provided in AVANCE’s Head Start Program to ensure compliance with the underlying principles and goals of AVANCE, Head Start Performance Standards, program goals and objectives, and the needs of the community.  Provide guidance, training, mentoring, and support to assigned staff and monitor the quality of early childhood education and development services that are provided to toddlers, pregnant women, and their families.

Experience: Required: Four (4) years experience in early childhood education and development services. Work experience may be substituted by advanced training in Early Childhood Development or related fields.Preferred: Four (4) years experience in a early childhood program serving toddlers, or supervising and managing early childhood education and development programs for toddlers.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
